The Sinai is located in the Biblical land of Midian, where Moses had lived for forty years, before he beheld the vision of the bush that burned without being consumed. It was here that he brought the Children of Israel, and received the divinely-revealed Law. The Prophet Aaron was anointed as the first High Priest, and the tabernacle was constructed according to the inspiration Moses had received on the peak of Sinai, where God was worshipped in sacred rites. Six hundred years after Moses, the Prophet Elias came to this same mountain, where he also spoke with God.
